I am an Assistant Professor of Information Technology and Organizations in the H. John Heinz III College of Public Policy, Information Systems, and Management at Carnegie Mellon University. I also have a partial appointment in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute in the School of Computer Science.
I study Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, particularly the design and use of communication technologies. I am interested in understanding and addressing problems of attention, interruption, multi-tasking, and overload in the modern workplace.
In my current research I am examining how distributed groups coordinate their work, and what technological and social interventions can facilitate coordination.
