Meet the Team

We are a team of five graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University completing our Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction (MHCI).

With a variety of backgrounds, our team brings experience in research, design, motion graphics, architecture, and transportation to our human-centered design process. We are working together and with our client, 99P Labs, to solve an end-to-end research and design problem over the capstone duration. Along with our robust design process, our team thrives on laughter, whimsy, lots of overalls, and baked goods.

We are supported by our client sponsors, Joan Smith and Erin Clepper from Honda, faculty advisors Derek Wahlia and Jonathan Brown, and the broader faculty of the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at CMU.

Andrea Zhu

Andrea is a human-centered designer with a focus on UX, Product Design, and Design Research. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island School of Design and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University.

It is her passion to design meaningful, innovative, and sustainable solutions for current and future problems.

Eleanor Hofstedt

Eleanor is a UX researcher from San Francisco. She spent the last four years in Product Operations at Meta, where she developed a passion for elevating the voice of the user in product decisions and tried her hand at research for the first time.

With a background in History and French from Tufts University, and a few years as a traveling salesperson under her belt, Eleanor brings a love of storytelling and a critical eye for underlying needs to her research approach.

Outside of the office, Eleanor loves backpacking, reading fantasy novels, and knitting. She's also been to 48 states, and can't wait to tick off the last two!

Healy Dwyer

Healy is a researcher and technologist originally from Miami, FL. Before coming to CMU, she worked for four years as a UX engineer conducting research, writing front-end code, and collaborating with designers. She brings a love of all things technical and a curiosity for the ‘why’ behind design and development decisions.

When she’s not tinkering with robots or learning about UX research you can find her riding her bike, reading Casey McQuiston’s latest book, eating pierogies, playing with her fluffy dog, Otis, or hiking with her family and friends.

Kristian Pham

Kristian is a product designer from Southern California. With an interest in the social impact of design, he pays special attention to the effects visual design has on the human psyche. After graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design from Cal Poly Pomona in 2018, he worked for a clean energy nonprofit in San Diego, CA and an IoT startup in Seattle, WA. He has a strong passion for social innovation, design research, and social justice.

Aside from design, he loves coffee, dogs, and french fries!

Mia Hofmann

Mia is a product designer from Atlanta, Georgia. She comes from a graphic design and new media studies background with experience in branding and motion design, and is a fanatic about all things design!

When she’s not sketching out wireframes or writing insights on stickies, she’s on the lookout for a new creative pursuit – whether that’s a DIY project, throwing ceramics, or perfecting her watercolor techniques.

Ultimately, she hopes to create products that leave lasting impacts on their users, and has been having a blast exploring new models for transportation systems with 99P Labs!
