Master of Human-Computer Interaction

The Master of Human-Computer Interaction (MHCI) is the world's first professional graduate program in HCI, preparing the next generation of leaders to shape the future of technology. Our accelerated 12-month, STEM-designated curriculum combines rigorous core coursework with flexible electives and culminates in a seven-month, client-sponsored Capstone where students lead real-world technology projects with industry partners.

Master of Human-Computer Interaction - Advanced Study

The MHCI - Advanced Study option is designed for students who want to build upon the breadth of the MHCI with deeper specialization in a chosen area of Human-Computer Interaction. Through an additional semester of elective courses, faculty mentorship, and research or innovation experiences, students develop expertise aligned with their career goals.

Accelerated Master of Human-Computer Interaction

Available only to current CMU undergraduate students majoring in human-computer interaction. Students must apply to the Accelerated MHCI program during the fall of their senior year, and, if accepted, they can enroll in the master’s capstone project in January of their senior year and graduate with the MHCI degree in December.

Master of Science in Learning Engineering

Faculty from the HCII and CMU's Department of Psychology lead this four-semester program. The curriculum features an integrated Capstone sequence that begins with Capstone I in the spring, bridges into a summer practicum or research experience and concludes with Capstone II the following fall. MSLE graduates are prepared for key roles as learning engineers, designers, developers and evaluators of educational technologies, as well as curriculum developers and learning technology policymakers.

Accelerated Master of Science in Learning Engineering

Carnegie Mellon University undergraduates in any major and eligible students from the Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education (PCHE) who have completed the appropriate courses may be eligible to enroll in the Accelerated Master of Science in Learning Engineering (A-MSLE) program—formerly known as the Accelerated Master of Educational Technology and Applied Learning Sciences (A-METALS). This program allows students to complete their master’s degree in as little as two semesters (eight months) after finishing their undergraduate degree.

Master of Computational Data Science

The CMU Master of Computational Data Science (MCDS) program offers a concentration in Human-Centered Data Science, which looks at techniques applied to web interaction data, educational data, and other human-centered aspects of data science. The MCDS program is housed in the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) and is a collaboration of faculty from the School of Computer Science.

Master of Science in Product Management

Product managers lead the teams that bring new products and services to market. The CMU School of Computer Science and Tepper School of Business collaborate on the Master of Science in Product Management (MSPM). This 12-month, full-time program gives students the knowledge and skills in business, management, technology, and user experience needed to be successful product managers.
