The Team
Patrick Barry is fascinated by how people interact with computers, how people interact with people, and how people interact with people through computers. He designs, programs, analyzes, slices, and dices software that enables people to socialize and collaborate in innovative and significant ways. He has degrees in computer science and now HCI, minors in math and French, and can swing dance pretty well too. Patrick can be reached at:
Scott Davidoff is fascinated by the issues that cause products to succeed -- and fail -- in the marketplace.
Scott has six years experience leading teams to bring new and innovative technologies to market. His small company helped SBC Ameritech to introduce their first IP Telephony product to the consumer market, and AOL Time Warner to stream their first webcast to 20 million members.
Scott came to CMU to refine his methods of rapid prototyping and measurable user-testing. He sees in HCI the potential to bridge the risk-filled division between technology, design and marketing. Scott can be reached at:
Cary Evans has over seven years experience in user interface design and development working on web-based software and websites. Most recently, he led design efforts on a collaboration and case management platform at a startup in Berkeley, California. He has designed knowledge base solutions that have been implemented at companies such as eBay, Sybase, and Sears. In addition, Cary has worked on an e-commerce platform and in the financial arena. As a California native, Cary grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of California at San Diego in 1996. Cary can be reached at:
Evangeline Haughney has over seven years of experience in healthcare IT as a technical trainer, online help developer, and Documentation Manager for Kaiser Permanente. On her last project she led the development effort for an intranet knowledge-base that currently supports the policies and procedures for over ten clinical and health plan departments in Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic States Region. While working with end-users, she saw firsthand the frustration between people and systems and decided to use her skills to design intuitive interfaces. Her ultimate goal is to one day design a system that her mother can use. Evangeline can be reached at:
Naotake Kakehi came from Tokyo with six years of system development experience in a Japanese newspaper company, Nikkei. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Waseda University in 1997. His areas of interest include information design for dissemination of news materials, human behavior under time pressure, and user interface evaluation. After his studies, he plans to go back to Japan and hopes to be an HCI specialist in the field of mass media. Naotake can be reached at:
