Process: Modeling

We created workflow, physical, cultural, sequence, and artifact models based on our data from our industry and NASA contextual inquiries. The actual models for each CI (which we cannot publish online due to confidentiality concerns) are rich in data and informed our design and implementation decisions. Below are our summarized "nutshell" versions of these models created to display the fundamental concepts in the larger model in a more succinct and manageable form.

Our consolidated workflow model shows how problem reports circulate through NASA currently. Reports originate from techs, who enter nonconformance reports in the PR System. Engineers overlook the PR system and communicated with the techs about the reports, while Quality manages the work authorization of techs, which generates and corrects open problem reports.

This is the social space we're designing for. We're in the top-left, with technology to Òpush,Ó with the goal that it will fit into the cultural working environment of the techs and facilitate their work as well as their communication with engineers. Techs and engineers remain in communication for clarification on problem reports and information needed to close them.
