Final Deliverables

Working prototype: At the completion of the project, we delivered a working prototype of the intranet. The prototype provided:

• An infrastructure that supports role-based presentations
• An interface that adapts elegantly to small displays like the Palm
• An information distribution mechanism
• A navigation system that is sensitive to your role in the system
• A customizable preferences area where users can create a list of favorite links, chose their digest e-mail preferences, and further customize the navigation display
• Web e-mail access tightly integrated into the intranet interface
• A searchable directory of SDM members that tied into the SDM Active Directory
• A department page template and indicative samples

Prioritized recommendations for future development: During our research, we uncovered a number of intranet features that would benefit the SDM community. However, the project duration did not allow us to implement all of our recommendations. The following list provides a prioritized roadmap for future site development.

Detailed documentation: To ensure future development of the site, a detailed style guide that encompassed both visual design and programming guidelines was critical to our project. We created the style guide using the DocBook DTD which gave us the flexibility to output in a variety of formats (i.e. HTML, PDF).
