University of Pittsburgh Intranet Project

Project Team

Prior to the kickoff meeting, we provided the client with short bio sketches on each team member as a way of introducing ourselves.
 

Neal Altman is a CMU staff member, employed at the Institute for Software Research International, School of Computer Science. Formerly a member of the technical staff at the Software Engineering Institute, Neal is also completing his graduate education in Human- Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. Neal also holds a graduate degree in anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has implemented several web-based projects using tools such as HTML, CSS, ASP, Visual Basic, Java Script and MS Access. Neal has extensive programming experience in C, C++, Ada, SNOBOL, ALGOL, LISP and Assembler. He develops user interfaces using Java, and TCL/TK. Neal also has experience in technical writing and interactive presentations.

Htet Htet Aung completed her Pre-Med program and received a BS in Molecular Biology at Southampton College of Long Island University. She worked at the University of Michigan as a research assistant before branching out into web development. Htet Htet worked for Diamond Bullet Design doing web based multimedia projects before coming to the graduate program in Human- Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. Her technical fluency in object-oriented programming extends to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PERL, mySQL, Visual Basic, C, and Java.

Bill Jerome holds his BS in Computer Science from CMU, and is completing his graduate work in HCI. Bill’s work experience has focused on the technical aspects of web-related technologies. He is currently employed by the Open Learning Initiative through the Office of Technology for Education at CMU, working on a webbased course delivery system used by researchers to study the effectiveness of web-based delivery techniques. His prior work includes studying web-based information retrieval techniques at the Language Technologies Institute at CMU and delivering web-based content for teaching at smaller schools at Carnegie Technology Education. Bill’s technical expertise includes: Java, C/C++, web based languages (JavaScript, JSP, HTML, TCL, PERL, PHP, etc.), mySQL and Oracle databases, J2EE (ERB, etc.), VB, XML and related (XSL, DTD, Schema, etc.)

Leslie Johnson completed a BA in Communications Design from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Prior to her work in interface development, she worked as an Art Director at various design and advertising agencies. Leslie has done graduate work in cognitive science in addition to her studies in Human-Computer Interaction. She currently is a web developer and teaching assistant for an eCommerce course using the web for delivering content at a distance. Leslie’s technical capabilities include: Java, web based languages, LISP, Visual Basic, Flash, Freehand, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Maureen O’Toole is telecommuting as an Interaction Designer with Bank of America (bankofamerican.com) in San Francisco, while she completes her graduate work in the MHCI program. She holds her BA in Art History from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Maureen has worked as an interaction designer and developer for publishing and technical training companies. She is proficient in the major multimedia tools as well as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Java.
