Solution

The data gap was clear but we needed to understand the socialization aspect a bit more.  Why and how do users socialize when shopping?
ONLINE

Guided inspiration board

The FindMyStyle experience begins online, when users create an inspiration board of images, music, adjectives, and colors related to their personality and style. The inspiration board is meant to capture users’ passive shopping preferences in a unique and creative way.
ONLINE

AI-generated recommendations

After completing their inspiration board, users receive a personalized, AI-generated list of recommended items. These are viewable in outfit or individual view to help users envision how they might look with items they already own.
IN-STORE

Navigation to recommended items

If users choose to go to American Eagle or Aerie’s brick-and-mortar store, they can access their recommended items online. An augmented reality or floor-plan view helps users navigate to these items in the store, expediting the in-store shopping process.

Accessible reviews

Shoppers may also choose to scan item tags in-store to access reviews, possible outfits, and more via American Eagle’s website.
THE PROCESS

A seamless connection

FindMyStyle connects online and in-store shopping by giving users a personalized in-store experience based on their online shopping behaviors. Users are able to quickly and easily navigate to online items in-store, enhancing the current brick-and-mortar shopping experience.
FEATURE #1

Locations generate a background

To create an engaging experience from inception, users are met with an element of delight as a location polaroid generates the inspiration board’s background.
FEATURE #2

Upload your own fabric swatch

The entire FindMyStyle experience is personalized. To take it one step further, we allow users to upload their own content to their inspiration board, including fabric swatches and images, processed by backend image recognition technology to further enhance users’ personal recommendation.
FEATURE #3

Item vs. outfit view

Shoppers spend a lot of mental energy trying to envision their current wardrobe while shopping. Allowing items to be viewed in outfit mode enhances recall, helping users visualize how items may look with similar clothes in their own closets.
FEATURE #4

AR & floor plan navigation

FindMyStyle’s navigation feature leads users to recommended items. Whereas an AR view is ideal for users who just entered the store, floor plan navigation is more useful for shoppers holding several items.
FEATURE #5

Scan & save

New QR-equipped price tags allow users to scan items in-store to access reviews and online pricing information. This technology also allows users to save items for later, should they change their minds and want to order online.
FEATURE #6

Access recommendations

FindMyStyle’s responsive interface allows users to access recommended items and navigate to them in-store.
THE BACKEND

An AI-based service

Each component of FindMyStyle is backed by an artificial intelligence algorithm that assesses color, music genre, and more to connect users' choices to American Eagle and Aerie’s offerings.
