Simret Gebreegziabher

Hi, I'm Simret. I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute, where I work with Yi-Chia Wang, Haiyi Zhu, Robert Kraut, and Sherry Tongshuang Wu. My current work focuses on designing and evaluating LLM-powered agents and Human-AI systems that support professionals and paraprofessionals in practicing complex interpersonal and technical skills.

Broadly, my research lies at the intersection of Human–AI Interaction, Cognitive Science, and Human-Centered AI. I design systems that enable people and AI to adapt to and learn from one another over time, particularly in ambiguous and subjective settings where user's goals, preferences, and values may evolve. My work explores human-AI alignment and collaboration, interactive machine learning, and the evaluation and oversight of models.

I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, where I was advised by Toby Jia-Jun Li. My research has been published at HCI venues including ACM CHI, UIST, IUI, and CHIWORK. In 2024, I was awarded an IBM Ph.D. Fellowship in support of my doctoral research.
