Jack Moffett

Jack Moffett is a UX leader, educator, author, and independent product developer with 28 years of experience designing complex digital systems and more than two decades of graduate and undergraduate teaching. His professional work has spanned aviation, energy, automotive, and military applications, with a particular focus on enterprise systems, DesignOps, design systems, and software for safety-critical and highly regulated environments.

At Boeing Digital Aviation Solutions, Jack led large, distributed design teams and helped mature DesignOps practices across research operations, design systems, UX metrics, professional development, and career pathways. His previous clients and employers include Lockheed Martin, Shell, DaimlerChrysler, Eaton, and multiple U.S. military agencies.

Jack currently teaches in Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute and Integrated Innovation Institute. His teaching has included interaction design, service design, game design, information and data visualization, visual communication, and designing for AI.

His current independent practice explores AI-assisted and agentic product development. Using tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, he designs and develops software products using a coded design system he created as their shared foundation. This work informs his research and teaching interests around the changing relationships among design, product strategy, software development, and AI.

Jack is the author of two books on UX practice, a co-founder of IxDA Pittsburgh, and has spoken at design conferences in the U.S. and internationally.
