Research Areas
I’m Hyeongdon (Doni) Moon, a PhD student at CMU’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute. My research focuses on developing novel methods to quantify and transfer human knowledge, moving beyond the limitations of traditional psychometrics.
This work is driven by an existentialist conviction that education is fundamental for human agency. By building engineering foundations at the intersection of NLP and the learning sciences, I aim to enable a more fluid exchange of knowledge within communities to enhance our collective decision-making. I welcome discussions across disciplines.
Before joining CMU, I studied at EPFL and Korea University. Outside of research, I enjoy cooking, brewing, video games, and bouldering.
Research Interests
I work at the intersection of NLP, learning sciences, and cognitive modeling. My research explores how to build fine-grained student models and leverage large language models to understand and generate educational content.
