Course Information

Course Number

HCI Undergraduate: 05-497 A3
HCI Graduate: 05-898 D3

Course Description

This course equips students with the foundational skills needed to work effectively with quantitative data in the context of user experience design. While it does not aim to train students as data scientists, it provides the knowledge and confidence to collaborate with data owners and data scientists to access and leverage data for actionable design insights.

Students will gain an understanding of how quantitative data informs service and product design, develop the ability to assess and prepare data for analysis, and learn how to communicate findings through compelling visualizations. Emphasis is placed on practical, real-world applications, ensuring students can identify meaningful patterns, make inferences, and generate insights that drive design decisions. This course is ideal for students who want to bridge the gap between data and design, ensuring user experiences are informed by quantitative evidence.
