HCII Collaborates with University of Madeira, Portugal
News
Beginning in August 2007, the Human-Computer Interaction Institute will extend its presence to Europe by embarking on a new and exciting collaboration with the University of Madeira, Portugal. In a joint dual degree initiative, students apply to the University of Madeira HCI program, subject to the same review and acceptance standards of all HCII applicants. The accepted candidates begin their course of study in Pittsburgh during the fall semester. Further course work and projects continue in Portugal starting with the spring semester.
The University of Madeira, Portugal’s youngest public university, is located in the Madeira Archipelago in the Atlantic. Convenient to the centers of Europe, Madeira is famous for its friendly people, exceptional natural beauty, and mild climate. Amidst a mix of ancient roots and contemporary amenities, the Mathematics and Engineering Department (DME) has built a strong international presence through a center of excellence for research in Mathematics. This Center now includes the Laboratory for Usage-centered Software Engineering (LabUSE), an HCI research and development initiative headed by design pioneer Larry Constantine.
Carnegie Mellon’s Master’s of Human-Computer Interaction Program enthusiastically announces this collaborative effort to make available state-of-the-art human computer interaction education in Portugal and throughout Europe.
