HCII Hosts First Demo Day This Thursday

Have you ever used your skin to adjust the volume for your phone? Can you easily navigate your kitchen appliances without your vision? When was the last time you quickly printed up some fabric?
The answer is probably never. Despite the fact that academic research often leads to the commercial products and interactions that we use daily, it can take years from their naissance in laboratories before they emerge on the market. The Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University will be opening up its labs and inviting the local and national community to join us for the department's first Demo Day on April 13, 2017.
From 2:00-6:00 PM, faculty and student labs will be open and running demonstrations of their current research. Fellow researchers, faculty, students, alumni and friends of the department are invited to experience our living laboratories that explore the relationships between technology and society. Fourteen faculty labs with over fifty demos will be open for guests to interact with.
There is no registration fee for this event and guests are welcome to register day of. Following the afternoon demos, the department will host an evening reception from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Newell-Simon Hall atrium. All event attendees are invited to join.
