The title of the winning paper is “Text Entry from Power Wheelchairs: EdgeWrite for Joysticks and Touchpads”.
This paper is about our EdgeWrite technology, for which we have applied for a patent, and which we are currently negotiating a license for deployment on wheelchairs.
EdgeWrite is a new way to enter text that uses the physical edges of a square to provide better stability and high accuracy. We designed it especially for people with muscular disabilities, but it also has proven successful for people when in unstable situations such as when walking. It has been shown to work well using a stylus on handheld devices, and with a joystick on a game machine, and with a touchpad or joystick that is built into a power wheelchair.
