Rosé Gets MOOCs More Social
In the Media
Why do so many students drop out of MOOCs before completing the class? This is a question that has interested Carolyn Rosé, associate professor in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute and Language Technologies Institute, and prompted the research behind her tool, Bazaar. This tool, recently featured in an article on EdSurge, will be piloted in five different California schools and adds peer-to-peer interaction into online classes.
"Often in online courses students disappear and drop. I'm hoping this helps them to stay vested in the course as they're working with their classmates," said Barbara Illowsky, dean of basic skills and online educational resources at De Anza College.
