HCII Faculty Participate in University of Pittsburgh Conference

The Human-Computer Interaction Institute had a strong showing at the inaugural Integrative Conference on Technology, Social Media and Behavioral Health on Monday, May 2. Organized by the faculty from the Katz Graduate School of Business and the Schools of the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, the cross-disciplinary conference hosted a variety of expert panelists who presented exciting new developments in health technology and social media.
Among those experts were HCII faculty members Robert Kraut and Jason Hong, who served on the panel "CMU Connections" with CMU Language Technologies Institute Assistant Professor Louis-Philippe Morency. Kraut, who moderated the panel, spoke on "Understanding and Improving Online Social Support," while Hong discussed "Using Smartphones To Sense Health." Morency rounded out the session with information on "Modeling Human Communication Dynamics."
HCII Director Anind Dey participated in the invited panel discussion "Where Do We Go From Here?" with Michael Becich, MD, associate vice chancellor for informatics in the health sciences at the University of Pittsburgh; and Illana Diamond, managing director of AlphaLab Gear.
Morency also highlighted his research on multimodal sensing and gesture analysis during the conference's networking and smart technologies demonstration session.
