Description
As public awareness of foreign influence operations has grown, so have efforts to describe and contextualize them. Brooking will discuss the findings of two projects of the Digital Forensic Research Lab of the Atlantic Council focused on this research question. The first, Dichotomies of Disinformation, sought to develop an extensible taxonomy to describe disinformation campaigns. The second, Interference 2020, sought to rate the credibility and media impact of individual foreign interference claims. Such descriptive frameworks will become more important as the study of foreign influence grows increasingly politicized.  — Emerson T. Brooking is a resident senior fellow at the Digital Forensic Research Lab of the Atlantic Council and coauthor of LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media. He is an expert in the fields of disinformation, terrorist communication, and internet policy. Previously, he was a research fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he studied U.S. defense policy. Brooking holds a BA in Political Science and Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. He was named to the Forbes “30 Under 30” Class of 2019 and is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  Additional Information.
