Sauvik directs the SPUD (Security, Privacy, Usability and Design) Lab. His work, at the intersection of HCI, AI and cybersecurity, is oriented around answering the question: How can we design systems that empower people with improved agency over their personal data and experiences online?
To that end, his work includes understanding and mitigating privacy risks from emerging technologies, using emerging technologies to address longstanding privacy and security risks, and creating systems that shift power towards people and away from threat actors and surveillance institutions.
Sauvik received his Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from CMU, following a B.S. in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. Prior to joining CMU in 2022, he was an assistant professor of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech.
