Research Areas
My PhD research focuses on developing tools, processes, and policies to support Responsible AI (RAI) practices on the ground. My projects often begin with a social scientific approach to empirically understand AI practitioners' current practices, challenges, and desiderata associated with building Responsible AI. Drawing on interdisciplinary insights from HCI, AI, design, social computing, psychology, and organizational science, I then build socio-technical interventions to support RAI practices, such as AI audits, red-teaming, and impact assessment. My work has directly informed many companies' responsible AI practices. Overall, my goal is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of AI practitioners in developing more responsible technology, while also meaningfully engaging end users in the design, development, and deployment of emerging AI systems.
